Assessments:
The National Tests that children in Year 6 sit are usually better known as SAT’s. This year the test week for Year 6 will begin on Monday 9th May. It’s really important that children sitting these tests attend school every day that week as a missed test results in no marks, even if your child has already sat one of the papers. Year 2 will also be undertaking tests during this term and the summer term.
We will also be using non-statutory tests with Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 and this year these will be completed when we return to school after the half term holiday (7th June). The results of these tests help us to match curriculum needs and check each child’s progression, so can I please ask parents that if holidays are being planned, it would be of benefit to everyone if these weeks could be avoided.
Thank you.
PE Kit:
As we approach the summer term may I remind everyone that children need to have a PE Kit in school every week. For children in the Infants this means a plain T-shirt, dark shorts and pumps or trainers. For children in the Juniors this is a plain T-shirt in their house colours and dark shorts, pumps or trainers. (Oak – Red; Fir – Blue; Willow – Green; Ash – Yellow).
Football shirts are not to be worn for PE lessons in school time.
Dinner Money:
Dinner monies are due and payable each Monday morning. Please can cheques be made payable to ‘Bury MBC’, with your child’s name and class written on the back. Dinner monies can be paid in advance for a few weeks or up to the end of each term.
The policy of Bury Local Authority is that arrears cannot exceed 10 meals. In the event of this happening, school meals are withdrawn and children will need to bring a packed lunch until all arrears are paid.
Thank you.
Nursery places
There are still a few places available for next September – please call into school if you wish to register your child.
Car Park Issues:
I recognise the difficulty in finding parking places near to school but it would be much appreciated if consideration could be given to our neighbours who often find their driveways and access to their homes blocked by the inconsiderate parking of a few people dropping off or collecting children from Park View. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the residents of The Mews (next door to school) to get in and out of their drives and as it is a private road, cars should not be parked there. Also residents are very unhappy that the grass verge at the end of Park View Road on The Terrace has been badly marked by cars being driven on it. We have also had staff cars bumped in the staff car park recently.
Please could consideration be given to parking away from school when dropping off and picking up children after school. The car park in St Mary’s Park is only a few minutes away from school and it would ease the congestion at the beginning and end of the school day.
Thank you.
Easter Egg competition:
Don’t forget your entry for this year’s Decorated Easter Egg competition. A letter will be sent home soon detailing what to do and how to enter.
PTA Sponsored Walk;
We are once again planning to hold the annual Sponsored Obstacle Course during school time so that all our children can take part. This year we will be holding this later than usual towards the end of the summer term and we will let you know the proposed date as soon as possible. Sponsor forms will be sent home and we look forward to having a very enjoyable day.
Curriculum news:
The Problem Solving Week was a huge success with everyone busily engaged in different problem solving activities. Thanks to Mrs Day for organising the Fun Maths Roadshow for the children and all the staff for their input into this week.
World Book Day passed in a whirl, with some fantastic costumes on show and lots of reading and writing activities. Thank you for your support in making this such a successful day.
Sports News:
After winning our semi final, we are looking forward to taking part in the final of the Crofton Cup before the end of term. The league matches are also drawing to a close and the position at the top of the league is very interesting. Watch this space!! Thank you Mr Scott, for all your hard work this term.
Charity events:
Red Nose Day was enjoyed by everyone who came to school dressed in something funny for money! After selling red noses earlier this term and adding the contributions made on that Friday, we have raised the grand total of £650.00.
I must mention a group of our Year 6 girls who planned and took part in a sponsored silence. Together they raised £153.20. Well done Anna, Sarah, Peace, Pavven, Amber and Kamaria.
PTA news:
The Y5/Y6 disco was a huge success. The children were so well behaved and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thank you for your support for the Bag2school day which raised £250.00. The next Bag2school day is on 11th October in the autumn term.
Parents Evening:
Thank you to everyone who came to parents evening this week. If you were unable to make an appointment to speak with your child’s class teacher, staff are always available to speak to either before or after school. Just contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment. Interim reports were given out at parents evening and we will be sending home reports to those of you who didn’t attend.
