Comic Relief – Red Nose Day:
We had a wonderful day on Friday 13th March – everyone came dressed in pyjama’s and dressing gowns and then in the afternoon we ran round St Mary’s Park. Thank you so much for your support – we raised the magnificent total of £715.00, so well done Park View.
Open Day 2009.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Day on the 17th March. We had many positive comments from parents who were able to come and we hope the visit gave you an idea of what a school day is like.
Assessments:
The National Tests that children in Year 6 sit are usually better known as SAT’s. This year the test week for Year 6 will begin on Monday 11th May. It’s really important that children sitting these tests attend school every day that week as a missed test results in no marks, even if your child has already sat one of the papers. Year 2 will also be undertaking tests during this term and the summer term.
We also use non-statutory tests with Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 that week (May 11th) , the week before and the week after. The results of these tests help us to match curriculum needs and check each child’s progression, so can I please ask parents that if holidays are being planned, it would be of benefit to everyone if these weeks could be avoided.
Thank you
PE Kit:
As we approach the summer term may I remind everyone that children need to have a PE Kit in school every week. For children in the Infants this means a plain T-shirt, dark shorts and pumps or trainers. For children in the Juniors this is a plain T-shirt in their house colours and dark shorts, pumps or trainers. (Oak – Red; Fir – Blue; Willow – Green; Ash – Yellow). Football shirts are not to be worn for PE lessons in school time.
Dinner Money:
Dinner monies are due and payable each Monday morning. Please can cheques be made payable to ‘Bury MBC’, with your child’s name and class written on the back. Dinner monies can be paid in advance for a few weeks or up to the end of each term.
The policy of Bury Local Authority is that arrears cannot exceed 10 meals. In the event of this happening, school meals are withdrawn and children will need to bring a packed lunch until all arrears are paid.
Thank you.
Nursery places:
There are still a
few afternoon places available for September – please call into school if you
wish to register your child.
School Crossing Patrol:
There is a vacancy for a School Crossing Patrol (Lollipop lady/man) on Bury New Road/Park View. If you are interested in this post, please contact Linda Wilkinson, SCP Supervisor, on 0161 253 5698.
Car Park Issues:
I recognise the difficulty in finding parking places but I must ask parents not to use the staff car park in a morning and at the end of the school day. It would also be much appreciated if consideration could be given to our neighbours who often find their driveways and access to their homes blocked by the inconsiderate parking of a few people dropping off or collecting children from Park View.
The school car park is for the use of staff and visitors to Park View School. Sometimes staff need to make a prompt exit to attend training courses, both during the school day and at 3.15p.m. We also have visitors such as health workers, Music Service teachers, LEA personnel etc arriving and leaving at different times. Members of staff who work in our Before and After School Club also have to leave promptly at 9.00a.m. and unfortunately there have been a number of occasions when cars parked down the centre of the car park or at the entrance have caused considerable problems.
Thank you
Curriculum news:
Year
1 had a fantastic Circus Day last week, when Circus Jim came to school and spent
the day teaching the children many different activities. They learnt to juggle,
spin plates, balance objects and even walk a tightrope! There are some photo’s
on display on the corridor if you get chance to have a look at them.
Year 5 and Year 6 also spent a morning last week watching a performance by the Take-Away Theatre Company on the theme of bullying. The play was called ‘Hope’ and used drama and music to tell the story of three young people whose lives are affected by bullying. The children took part in workshops after watching the performance where they explored the various issues that arose in the play.

Netball:
Congratulations to our netball team on their first win this year! They played King David last week and won 9 – 3. The girls have tried their best in every match they have played and have represented Park View so well. We are very proud of them.
