Year  2     Autumn Term 2008

LITERACY

  • Stories with familiar settings
  • Traditional tales eg Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks
  • Use lists, diagrams and arrows to write instructions
  • Patterns in poetry; rhyming language

NUMERACY

  • Count on and back in 1’s,10’s and 2’s
  • Order numbers on a number line
  • Add and subtract numbers to at least 10 and then 20
  • Halve and double numbers

SCIENCE:

Materials:

  • Sort collections of materials
  • Experiment with changing materials

Health and growth:

  • What makes a balanced diet
  • Healthy choices

ICT:

  • Use a word processing program to type simple sentences
  • Use a publishing program to create pictures

HISTORY:

  • Our local area – how it has changed
  • Walk around the local area and make maps and plans

GEOGRAPHY:

An Island Home

  • Topic based on ‘Katie Morag’ book set on Island of Struay

RE:

  • Festivals and celebrations – Ramadan, Eid, Hannukah, Divali, Advent, Christmas

DT:

Fun things to make and do:

  • Following a set of instructions to make models

ART:

  • Links with festivals and celebrations, science and history/geography

MUSIC:

  • Exploring pitch
  • Ostinato composition
  • Simple rounds

PSHE:

New Beginnings;

  • Have opportunities to appreciate and celebrate differences and similarities between them
  • To value their gifts and talents

Getting on and falling out:

  • Consider the qualities of becoming good friends
  • Practise using ‘peaceful problem solving’

OTHER
